All requests may be typed and submitted to the Executive Vice President no later 5:00 p.m. Thursday in order to be included in the agenda for the following Tuesday. The Executive Vice President reserves the right to delay the Request for Action to a later Council session if the Executive Vice President feels the agenda for the next schedule meeting is full.

Synopsis: Appointment of Council Representative to Participate in Awareness Week

Appointment of Legislative Council Representative to Participate in Food Insecurity Awareness Week: I Pledge to End Food Hunger


Whereas, the Associated Students of the University of California, Irvine (ASUCI) is a student body that supports student initiatives that benefit the UC Irvine students; and

Whereas, there is currently a student-initiated movement to create awareness about food insecurity on campus and push for a food pantry/food bank at UC Irvine; and


Whereas, food insecurity is an issue that many students face on a daily basis at UCI; and


Whereas, the leaders that are in the (SOAR Food Security initiative)  include:

  • Alexander Fung (Retention Coordinator, UC Irvine Student Outreach and Retention Center)

  • Jennifer Lima (Administrative Intern, UC Irvine Student Outreach and Retention Center)

  • Jessica Figueroa (Working Class Caucus Chair, United States Students Association)

Whereas, these student leaders have successfully acquired the funding from the University of California Office of the President Global Food Initiative (GFI), to secure a proper space, support, people power, and resources to create awareness about  food insecurity and produce events to create dialogue on campus about this issue; and


Whereas, ASUCI Legislative Council passed Resolution 50-22 (R50-22) on November 6th, 2014 with a unanimous vote to support the SOAR Center’s initiative to push for the food pantry; and

 

Whereas we want the support of one ASUCI legislative Council member to help us during the Awareness Week: I pledge to End Food Insecurity  that will take place Spring quarter week 4 starting Monday April 20 to April 23 2015; and


Whereas, we will need support before the week with planning and outreaching to the student body about the Awareness week; and

Let it be further resolved that, ASUCI Legislative Council appoints Negar Fatahi as a representative to participate and collaborate during  Awareness Week: I Pledge to End Food Insecurity; and


Let it be finally resolved that, ASUCI Legislative Council continues to support the food security initiative.
