Item Number: 112 Legislation Number (B: Bill, R: Resolution): R50-96
Author:   Alvin Phan   Second:  Ariel Barnoy
Synopsis: ASUCI By-Law Amendments: Redistribution of Executives to Legislative Council Committees
Date of Presentation: May 28th, 2015

Whereas, Legislative Council Standing Committees, such as Finance, Public Info, Advocacy and Rules, serve a crucial purpose to upholding the duties of Legislative Council within ASUCI,

Whereas it is the responsibility of the rules committee as per the By-Laws to "review and revise the Council By-Laws, Elections Code, and Judicial Board Procedures" (XI. RULES COMMITTEE - section A-1-a), and

Whereas, it is essential that executive officers of ASUCI are able to serve as ex-officio members in these committees, participating in the selection of chairs/vice-chairs and discussion regarding committee business,

Whereas, as it currently stands, executive officers are not equally distributed amongst the committee (some executives are not assigned, others are double assigned),

Whereas, due to the 5 executives and 4 standing committees, we found it best to put each executive in two committees (committees directly pertaining to their office), allowing them more flexibility to switch committees if needed during Council,

Therefore, let it be resolved that the ASUCI By-Laws be modified in the following way:

from:

ASUCI By-Laws, Article XI - Rules Committee, Section A, Clause 2

The ASUCI Executive Vice President shall be a non-voting member of the Rules Committee.

to:

from:
