REQUEST FOR ACTION BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL 
 
All requests may be typed and submitted to the Executive Vice President no later 5:00 p.m. Thursday in order to be included in the agenda for the following Tuesday. The Executive Vice President reserves the right to delay the Request for Action to a later Council session if the Executive Vice President feels the agenda for the next schedule meeting is full.

Synopsis: Creation of MyUCI Ad-Hoc Committee

Whereas, Article IV, Section B, Item 10 states, “[The authority of Legislative Council shall include, but is not limited to] Establish standing or ad hoc committees, i.e. Rules, Finance, Public Information, Special Task Forces, to assist in any legislative recommendations.”, and

 

Whereas, ad hoc committees have been created by Legislative Council to address various issues affecting the students, and

 

Whereas, the Associated Students of UC Irvine fee supporting services for students has remained static for more than 15 years at $18 per quarter, 

Whereas, the rate of inflation since 1997, according to the Consumer Price Index, has been 30%, leaving real dollars available for services for students shrinking on a yearly basis, 

Whereas, the average Associated Student quarterly fee across all of the UC schools is $53.10, with the Associated Students of UC Irvine being one of the lowest income/lowest budget Associations, 

Whereas, as the decrease of state support for higher education has forced the University of California to make dramatic cuts, which have been largely directed toward student support services, decreasing the quality of student life at all UC campuses, 

Whereas, an increase in the operational funding to the Associated Students of UC Irvine would allow for greater student support services and programming, particularly as the State Legislature and the University of California continue to privatize the cost of UC education, 

Therefore, let it be resolved that an ad hoc committee be created to review the Associated Students fee paid by UC Irvine undergraduate students and propose any revisions they deem necessary, and   

 

Let it further be resolved that this committee be chaired by Alvin Phan (ASUCI Legislative Council) and co-chaired by Ariel Barnoy (ASUCI Legislative Council) and also consist of members from the ASUCI Legislative Council, ASUCI Executive Cabinet and the ASUCI Chiefs of Staff,

 

Let it further be resolved that this committee will meet weekly in a location open to all ASUCI members 

 

Let it further be resolved that this committee be named the “MyUCI Committee.”
