REQUEST FOR ACTION BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL 
 
All requests may be typed and submitted to the Executive Vice President no later 5:00 p.m. Thursday in order to be included in the agenda for the following Tuesday. The Executive Vice President reserves the right to delay the Request for Action to a later Council session if the Executive Vice President feels the agenda for the next schedule meeting is full.

Synopsis: ASUCI By-Laws Revision: Formation of Deputy Speaker and Adjustment of Speaker Duties

Let it be resolved that the ASUCI By-Laws be amended in the following manner:

 

Article 3 (Membership Provisions), Section B (Council Provisions), Clause 2 have its’ contents struck and be amended to: “The Legislative Council Speaker shall appoint a Legislative Council Deputy Speaker from Council Membership. The Deputy Speaker’s term shall begin immediately effective after the Speaker’s appointment and will term out the same time the Council Speaker who appointed them terms out (or when the Council Speaker resigns/vacates their position).”, and

 

Article 3 (Membership Provisions), Section B (Council Provisions), Clause 2, Sub-clause A be struck entirely and amended to:

“

  1. ASUCI Legislative Council Deputy Speaker job description and duties:

 

  1. Serves as the Council Speaker Pro-Tempore during a Council Meeting if the Council Speaker Pro-Tempore is absent.

  2. Assist the Council Speaker Pro-Tempore with Legislative Council’s daily operations.

  3. Responsible for duties delegated to them by the Legislative Council Speaker Pro-Tempore

 

“, and

 

Under Article 3 (Membership Provisions), Section B (Council Provisions), Clause 1, Sub-clause A be amended to additionally read:

 

“10. [The Legislative Council Speaker Pro-Tempore] Shall be responsible for the oversight, development and operations of the Legislative Council Internship Program.

 

11. [The Legislative Council Speaker Pro-Tempore] Shall select a Councilmember to serve as Deputy Speaker for the duration of their term. The Deputy Speaker is to assist the Council Speaker as needed/delegated.

 

12. [The Legislative Council Speaker Pro-Tempore] Shall have the ability to appoint members to Council Staff as they see necessary/fit (including Legislative Council Directors, Aides, Fellows, Deputies, Chiefs of Staffs, etc.,)

 

13. [The Legislative Council Speaker Pro-Tempore] Shall oversee and manage all Council Staff”
