Synopsis: Student Center Fee Initiative
Date of Presentation: 2016-03-01

 Whereas, the UC Irvine Student Center and Event Services provides vital services to the UC Irvine student community, including booking and administration of Ring Mall reservations, classroom/lecture halls and park areas at no charge to students;

Whereas, the UC Irvine Student Center and Event Services has kept its room rental rates and labor rates static for eight yaers while the number of Registered Campus Organizations has risen 175% from approximately 200 organizations to 550;

Whereas, in fall 2017 the current Student Center Fee will drop by $47.50 will cause financial instability to the UC Irvine Student Center and Event Services, and will deeply impact their ability to continue the current level of service they provide to the student community;

Whereas, an increase in the operating budget of the Student Center would allow UC Irvine Student Center and Event Services to maintain its level of operations it provides, as well as ensuring debts are paid for the Student Center;

Therefore let it be resolved the "Student Center & Cross-Cultural Center Referendum" be placed on the ballot for the Spring 2016 elections to be voted on by the student body with the approval of Legislative Council (contingent on AGS Council passing a legislation that approves the Referendum to be placed on the ballot for the same election)
