The Executive Vice President reserves the right to delay the Request for Action to a later Council session if the Executive Vice President feels the agenda for the next schedule meeting is full. |

| Synopsis: A Resolution for ASUCI to Officially Rejoin UCSA | |

WHEREAS, the Associated Students of University of California, Irvine, henceforth referred to as ASUCI, serves as the official representative body for undergraduate students at UC Irvine; WHEREAS, ​ASUCI represents nearly 26,000 undergraduate students who pay direct fees to ASUCI; WHEREAS, ASUCI is currently a temporary member campus in good standing of the University of California Student Association (UCSA) and has had their fees waived for the 2015-2016 academic year; WHEREAS these dues are budgeted by the Office of the Executive Vice President and approved by Legislative Council when they approve the annual ASUCI budget; WHEREAS, UCSA dues are based upon enrollment of undergraduate students per year, at a minimum rate of $1.30 per student, and WHEREAS UC Irvine has been a recent active member of UCSA for one academic year and the ASUCI Legislative Council sees its external relations efforts as an immense benefit to UC Irvine students; WHEREAS, UCSA is a valuable partner to UC Irvine students as it fights campaigns statewide regarding prevention of sexual assault, increasing accessibility to higher education, and priorities in mental health, among many other campaigns, and WHEREAS, UCSA has historically provided great advantages to students at UC Irvine, including but not limited to fighting for tuition freezes, and WHEREAS, ​The legislative council terminated its membership in UCSA after passing a legislation that listed the reasons that UC Irvine does not benefit from UCSA in B49-14, WHEREAS, a town hall was held and publicized by the Executive VP office, quoted saying, “There have been many issues with UCSA that have demonstrated that UCSA does not hold UC Irvine’s values of respect, integrity, commitment, and empathy” WHEREAS, UC Irvine representatives have sat on the Board of Directors of UCSA this year as both nonvoting and voting members; and WHEREAS, UC Irvine representatives have been supported by UCSA with campus efforts on mental health advocacy and sexual assault prevention advocacy; WHEREAS, the University of California faces many future issues, such as tuition and enrollment increases, food insecurity, and housing insecurity; WHEREAS, it is believed to be in the best interest of UC Irvine students at the UC-wide and Statewide level that UC Irvine be a member of UCSA; THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, That the ASUCI Legislative Council officially approves that ASUCI rejoin University of California Student Association; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, ​That the Legislative Council of the Associated Students of the University of California Irvine stipulates that this resolution be enacted on the condition that UCSA agrees to establish a working group comprised of students leaders from each campus, to develop and submit recommendations on the improvement of UCSA operations and structure to review by the National Student Congress in August 2017. |
