REQUEST FOR ACTION BY THE ASUCI SENATE 
 
All requests may be typed and submitted to the President of the Senate no later 5:00 p.m. Thursday in order to be included in the agenda for the following Tuesday. The President of the Senate reserves the right to delay the Request for Action to a later Senate session if the President of the Senate feels the agenda for the next schedule meeting is full.

Synopsis: Resolution for a formation of Special Committee for the Disability Resource Center

Whereas, students with disabilities are a significant

 
portion of the undergraduate population that come from all 
 
parts of the world and bring varied and diverse 
 
perspectives to campus,
 
 
Whereas, students with disabilities at UCI face many unique 
 
challenges attending school, and 
 
 
Whereas, it is critical that students with disabilities 
 
have a sufficient help to enable them succeed
 
 
 Whereas, ASUCI has a duty to ensure that students with 
 
disabilities are receiving the resources necessary to be 
 
successful on campus, 
 
 
Whereas, it is important that ASUCI also directly remains 
 
informed as to what the needs of students with disabilities 
 
are and thus develops a special committee that facilitates the 
 
information between the two parties, 
 
 
Whereas, the Disability Resource Center is interested in 
 
working with ASUCI in continuing this special  committee
 
which is composed of both students with disabilities, professional 
 
staff from the Disabilities Resource Center, ASUCI 
 
officials, and Senate members, 
 
 
Whereas, this  special committee can help serve the interest of 
 
students with disabilities by engaging in dialogue with the 
 
Disability Resource Center to work together to find resolve for
 
the problems at the Center so that to ensure that a 
 
measure of efficacy reaches the student with disabilities 
 
population, and
 
 
Therefore Let it Be Resolved, that ASUCI Senate
 
creates a special committee for student senators
 
 with the Disability Resource Center to 
 
service the needs of students with disabilities,   
 
 
Let it further be resolved that the Senate Committee is
 
empowered to select new members for the new 
 
academic year and explore more avenues to reach out and 
 
support the student with disabilities community at UCI, 
 
working with the Disability Resource Center as needed, and 
 
Let it be resolved that ASUCI Senate appoints 
 
Senators Lydia Natoolo, Amal Jude Noureldine, Alison Lu, Zeina Mousa,
 
Mohamed Abdelrahman, Grecia Orozco, Elsie Castillejos, Hannah Tompkins,
 
and Michael Bender to this committee, and
 
Let it be resolved that this Special committee be named Disability Resource 
 
Center Special Committee and
 
 
 
Let it finally be resolved that following the rules stated 
 
under ASUCI Bylaws, Article XIV, Section A, the progress of 
 
the Disability Resource Center Special Committee will be reviewed 
 
at the end of the Winter Quarter 2017 to discuss its annual 
 
renewal
