Whereas, the Rules Committee is responsible to review and revise the Senate By-Laws as per article Article 11 section 3 of the ASUCI Constitution,

Whereas, the Rules Committee needs to further extend its power in this role,

Whereas, the Rules Committee previously had the power to review and approve all resolutions submitted to the Senate,

Whereas, under Article 5 Sec. A Subsection 1. the Rules and Oversight Committee has the responsibility to handle internal Senate discipline in connection with the President of the Senate,

Whereas, the Senate By-Laws do not have a written statement regarding removal of chair or vice-chair of Rules Committee,

Therefore, let it is resolved that the By-Laws be amended to add the following (k), (l), and (m) responsibilities to Article 5 Sec. A Subsection 1. of the Rules Committee responsibilities to read as below.

“l. Reviewing and approving all resolutions submitted to the Senate with regards to ASUCI code/policy change before the Senate vote.

m. Overseeing issues related to the fulfillment of senator duties.

n. Concerns with the regulations and policies of ASUCI operation and services.”

Let it further be resolved that the By-Laws be amended to add Subsection 3 to Article 5 Sec. A to read as below.

“3. The committee chair and vice-chair are to be elected at the beginning of each year, but the chair and vice-chair may be removed by a majority vote of the committee at any time.”
