REQUEST FOR ACTION BY THE ASUCI SENATE 
 
All requests may be typed and submitted to the President of the Senate no later 5:00 p.m. Thursday in order to be included in the agenda for the following Tuesday. The President of the Senate reserves the right to delay the Request for Action to a later Senate session if the President of the Senate feels the agenda for the next schedule meeting is full.

Whereas, Donald J. Trump enacted an executive order for a “Muslim Ban” denying entry from 7 Muslim Majority countries to the United States

 

Whereas, non-citizens and permanent residents from 7 Muslim majority countries: Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen, are denied entry into the country.

 

Whereas, it is known that people from Ethiopia and other Muslim Majority countries not listed are also being detained.

 

Whereas, loved ones, workers, students and legal residents are denied entry into a country based on religion

Whereas, President Donald J. Trump enacted an executive order to begin building a wall on the border of the United States and Mexico

 

Whereas, the 50 billion dollar project will criminalize and prevent Mexican immigrants from entering the United States

 

Whereas immigrants play a crucial role in the success of the United States

Therefore, let it be resolved that, ASUCI stands in solidarity with the immigrants being denied and barred access to the United States

Be it further resolved that, ASUCI demands that the University of California, Irvine recognize the attacks on Muslim and immigrant students on campus

Be it further resolved that, ASUCI demands that the University of California, Irvine stand in solidarity with the Muslims and Mexicans being kept out by the US government.

 

Be it further resolved that ASUCI financially assist the organizing communities on campus.

 

Be it further resolved that ASUCI’s senate public affairs committee hold a workshop educating others on the ramifications of such a ban.

Lastly, be it further resolved that a copy of this legislation be sent to the Chancellor Howard Gillman and Vice Chancellor Thomas A. Parham.
