REQUEST FOR ACTION BY THE ASUCI SENATE 
 
All requests may be typed and submitted to the President of the Senate no later 5:00 p.m. Thursday in order to be included in the agenda for the following Tuesday. The President of the Senate reserves the right to delay the Request for Action to a later Senate session if the President of the Senate feels the agenda for the next schedule meeting is full.

Synopsis: Student Resource and Services Initiative

Whereas, the Associated Students of UC Irvine fee supporting services for students has remained static for more than 16 years at $18 per quarter,

 

Whereas, the Associated Students of UC Irvine fee is not implemented or charged during the summer sessions, only the academic quarters of Fall, Winter, and Spring, and,

Whereas, the rate of inflation since 1997, according to the Consumer Price Index, has been 30%, leaving real dollars available for services for students shrinking on a yearly basis,

Whereas, the average Associated Student quarterly fee across all of the UC schools is $53.10, with the Associated Students of UC Irvine being one of the lowest income/lowest budget Associations,

Whereas, as the decrease of state support for higher education has forced the University of California to make dramatic cuts, which have been largely directed toward student support services, decreasing the quality of student life at all UC campuses,

Whereas, an increase in the operational funding to the Associated Students of UC Irvine would allow for greater student support services and programming, particularly as the State Legislature and the University of California continue to privatize the cost of UC education,

Therefore, let it be resolved that the Student Resource and Services Initiative be placed on the ballot for the Spring 2017 elections to be voted on by the undergraduate student body with the approval of the ASUCI Senate.
