Item Number: 101 Legislation Number (B: Bill, R: Resolution): R52-88
Author:   Mehde Hasan   Second:  Nagi Alazani
Synopsis: The Right Now Parking Resolution
Date of Presentation: 6/8/17

Whereas undergraduate/graduate students pay $70 a month for “S” Zone Commuter parking permits

Whereas the UCI Transportation and Distribution Services close parking structures for events and visitors.

Whereas the Student Center Parking Structure in Zone 6 is partially closed at least once a week for visitors

Whereas students have trouble finding parking on days when their zone is closed

Whereas the UCI Transportation claims that all parking permits can park in CT or ARC, but fail to recognize the extra time needed to reach campus from these parking structures.

Whereas the UCI Transportation solution for the current parking problem is to build a new parking structure with 2,200 parking spaces in the Physical Sciences area by 2021

Whereas students must pay to park in other zones if their respective zone does not have any more parking stalls

Whereas it is important that both students and visitors have a place to park their cars

Therefore, let it be resolved that the ASUCI Senators suggest to UCI Transportation and Distribution Services that whenever a parking zone is partially or fully closed, students holding parking permits within that respective zone shall be able to park in any zone for that day in any unmarked parking stall.
