All requests may be typed and submitted to the President of the Senate no later 5:00 p.m. Thursday in order to be included in the agenda for the following Tuesday. The President of the Senate reserves the right to delay the Request for Action to a later Senate session if the President of the Senate feels the agenda for the next schedule meeting is full. |

Whereas, education is a right for all who wish to pursue it and,
Whereas, nearly 800,000 undocumented are affected by Trump’s decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program and, [1]
Whereas, this program has afforded academic success for many students and most importantly UCI students and,
Whereas, the action to end this program will threaten the academic success of the students who were beneficiaries (DREAMers) and,
Whereas, the University of California President, Janet Napolitano, is a strong supporter of DACA and, [2]
Whereas, the University of California has decided to take legal action against this action of the Trump administration and, [3]
Whereas, University of California, Irvine Chancellor Howard Gillman has issued a statement in support of DACA and, [4]
Whereas, the University of California, Irvine Administration will continue to support DREAMers and,
Whereas, the rest of the undocumented community is in dire need of assistance and requires attention and support in order to grow and thrive as well and, [5]
Whereas, ASUCI has a responsibility to advocate and ensure that all undergraduate students academically succeed and,
Let it therefore be resolved that ASUCI supports the decisions and actions of the UC President and the UCI administration against the imminent cancellation of DACA and,
Let it be resolved that ASUCI supports DREAMers right to acquire an education and,
Let it be resolved that ASUCI does not agree or support Trump’s Administration DACA withdrawal and,
Let it be resolved that ASUCI endorses the Senate/House Dream Act of 2017 and, [6][7]
Let it be resolved that ASUCI stands with the entire undocumented student community and not solely DREAMers in advocating for comprehensive immigration reform and,
Let it be resolved that ASUCI will partner and work with the UCI Administration, Campus departments, and the Local Community to create workshops which will focus on providing resources for all students who are affected by DACA repeal and,
Let it be resolved that a copy of this legislation be sent to University of California President, Janet Napolitano, Chancellor Howard Gillman, Vice Chancellor Thomas Parham, UCI DREAMers Director Oscar D. Teran, and Congresswoman Mimi Walters.
