| Date of Presentation: |
|
| WHEREAS, On the 26th of April, 2018, concerns were raised by both senators and members of the public about candidates who are also authorized club signers being able to so endorse themselves in an election, WHEREAS, This caused a delay in ratification of the Elections Results for the Spring 2018 General Election,
WHEREAS, This may raise questions regarding ethical conduct and a signer being able to so endorse themselves or a slate without approval of their club as a whole,
THEREFORE LET IT BE RESOLVED, that Article XIV, Section G of the Elections Code be amended so as to add the following:
3. In order to endorse a candidate for ASUCI Office, the person approving the endorsement, in addition to any other requirements, shall present proof to the elections commission that a vote was taken by the members of the club or organization, in favor of endorsing the candidate in question. The voting criteria of clubs or organizations may be restricted by rate of attendance or any other provision which a club’s constitution or governing documents allow, but shall not be restricted on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender, gender expression, gender identity, pregnancy, physical or mental disability, medical condition (cancer-related or genetic characteristics), genetic information (including family medical history), ancestry, marital status, age, sexual orientation, citizenship, service in the uniformed services, or the intersection of any of these factors. What qualifies as proof may be determined by the Elections Commission so long as the standard and types of evidence qualifying as proof is announced prior to or at the same time as the launch of the Elections Website and the same standard is applied evenly to all clubs or organizations throughout the duration of the Elections. Proof may include, but shall not necessarily be limited to: Minutes, Secret Ballots, Livestream/Video Evidence, Online polling of members.
