Synopsis: Dissolving of Special Committees
Date of Presentation:

Whereas four special committees were formed during the Winter 2018 quarter,

Whereas Special Committee Reports are required components of each Senate agenda,

Whereas Senate meetings have a limited time of two hours per meeting and this time should be spent effectively in order to best serve constituents who fund senators' salaries with their student fees,

Whereas Special Committee Reports have become time-consuming and redundant during the Winter 2018 quarter,

Whereas there is no time allocated for special committees to meet during Senate meetings,

Whereas all special committees are formed under and by the Advocacy Committee,

Whereas the Senate agenda allocates twenty minutes per meeting for Advocacy Committee breakouts, in addition to time allocated for Advocacy Committee reports,

Whereas Advocacy Committee reports have tended to be obsolete or nonexistent due to the significant amount of time spent on Special Committee Reports, which are listed earlier in the Senate agenda,

Therefore, let it be resolved that the Basic Needs Security Special Committee, DREAMers Special Committee, Disability Services Special Committee, and Labor Special Committee shall be dissolved immediately, and

Let it finally be resolved that the Advocacy Committee shall focus on the following four priorities for the Spring 2018 quarter, as requested by constituents:

  1. advocating for the basic needs security of UCI students
  2. advocating for the DREAMers population at UCI
  3. advocating for students with disabilities and improving disability services at UCI
  4. advocating for student and non-student laborers across the UC.
