REQUEST FOR ACTION BY THE ASUCI SENATE |

All requests may be typed and submitted to the President of the Senate no later 5:00 p.m. Thursday in order to be included in the agenda for the following Tuesday. The President of the Senate reserves the right to delay the Request for Action to a later Senate session if the President of the Senate feels the agenda for the next schedule meeting is full. |

| Synopsis: Impeachment of a Social Ecology Senator | |

Whereas, the Social Ecology Senator has broken the public trust between senator and students,
Whereas, the Social Ecology Senator has caused many students to feel uncomfortable with the Senator’s presence in a position of leadership and has resulted in students feeling that their fees have been given unjustly,
Whereas, the Social Ecology Senator has resulted in students believing that the Senator is unfit to hold the position of Senator,
Whereas, under Article 6, Section 2 (a) Senate aims to enact legislation for the welfare and interest of the undergraduate students and,
Whereas, in the ASUCI Constitution under Article 6, Section 2 (r) Senate determines what constitutes an impeachable offense for officers and,
Whereas, in the ASUCI Code of Ethics under Article 4, Section 7 No officer of ASUCI shall engage in any conduct unbecoming of a representative of the student body and,
Whereas, under Article 4, Section 8 No officer of ASUCI shall use ASUCI supplies, equipment or facilities for any purpose other than the conduct of official ASUCI business, unless otherwise provided for written permission of the Executive Director and ASUCI President and,
Whereas, under Article 1, Public officials must also strive to act with integrity, high moral
Whereas, in the ASUCI Constitution under Article 5, Section 1 (a) subsection 5, In order for ASUCI Officers to hold any elected position, they are expected to abide by the ASUCI Code of Ethics.
Whereas, the Social Ecology Senator attempted to pass a satirical legislation in a provocative manner in which public distress was caused [1],
Whereas, the Social Ecology Senator admitted to not have consulted any of the constituents she represents regarding such legislation [2],
Whereas, the Social Ecology Senator has ignored the ASUCI Constitution under Article 6, Section 2 (a) by aiming to enact a legislation against the interest of students,
Whereas, the Social Ecology Senator has ignored the ASUCI Constitution under Article 3, Section 1 (q) by not giving the students the right to an ethical and effective student government,
Whereas, the Social Ecology Senator has violated the ASUCI Code of Ethics under Article 4, Section 7 by submitting a satirical legislation that is unbecoming of a senator,
Whereas, the Social Ecology Senator has violated the ASUCI Code of Ethics under Article 4, Section 8 by using the legislation submission system to play “devil’s advocate” and spark debate, rather than for ASUCI business [3],
Whereas, the Social Ecology Senator has violated the ASUCI Constitution under Article 5, Section 1 (a) subsection 5 by violating the Code of Ethics,
Let it be resolved that the ASUCI senate concludes that R53-36: Due Process and Transparency in Title IX Proceedings and R53-39: Outing white supremacists in the local PD are problematic and offensive legislations because they are not representative of the student body [4],
Let it be resolved that the ASUCI senate concludes that actions of the Social Ecology senator were unethical because she failed to represent her constituents by consulting fellow senators and ignoring and violating the aforementioned sections,
Let it be resolved that the ASUCI senate concludes that the culmination of actions of the Social Ecology senator constitute an impeachable offense as determined by Senate, under Article 6, Section 2 (r), because the senator did not transparently discuss the issues of the legislation with her constituent in submitting a public satirical legislation, and broke the public trust between students and the ASUCI senators, and ignored the Code of Ethics and Constitution,
Let it therefore be resolved that, the ASUCI Senate concludes that the Social Ecology Senator is unable to properly execute all of the duties expected of their position as an elected ASUCI official and,
Let it finally be resolved that, the ASUCI Senate impeaches Melissa Safady, the Social Ecology Senator based on the aforementioned points against her.
