REQUEST FOR ACTION BY THE ASUCI SENATE 
 
All requests may be typed and submitted to the President of the Senate no later 5:00 p.m. Thursday in order to be included in the agenda for the following Tuesday. The President of the Senate reserves the right to delay the Request for Action to a later Senate session if the President of the Senate feels the agenda for the next schedule meeting is full.

Synopsis: Appointment of First Year Special Interest Senator

Whereas, the special interest First Year Senator seat is currently vacant, and

 

Whereas, the ASUCI Constitution states that “If a senate seat is vacant, the Senate may appoint a student who meets the relevant qualifications to fill the vacancy” under Article 6, Section 1, Subsection (d), Clause (2), and

 

Whereas, the ASUCI By-Laws state the “Vacancies in the Senate shall be filled by appointment of the Rules Committee with a two-thirds (2/3) consent of voting Senators present” under Article III, Section E, Subsection 3, and

 

Whereas, the ASUCI Senate convened and interviewed qualified applicants presented by the Rules Committee on November 30th, 2017 and December 5th, 2017, and

 

Whereas, the ASUCI Senate deliberated and considered the merits of candidates selected by the Rules Committee, and

 

Let it therefore be resolved that the ASUCI Senate approves the appointment of Alan Calderon to serve as the First Year Senator until the conclusion of Spring Quarter, 2018.
