Synopsis: By-Laws Amendment: Internal Senate Conflict Resolution
Date of Presentation: 4/5/18

WHEREAS, the pacing of Senate sets up greater possibilities of miscommunication and misassumptions especially as a number of projects are in the works at the same time,

WHEREAS, to fulfill the duties of a Senator it is crucial to maintain a set of shared knowledge pertaining to all that is going on within Senate and ASUCI to a certain constitutional and ethical extent,

WHEREAS, the failure to maintain a shared set knowledge among all Senators creates the potential for miscommunication and then potential misled actions, ultimately fostering grounds for potential conflict,

WHEREAS, no process exists to handle said conflictions within Senate without depriving the ASUCI constituency of proper representation or requiring a case by case approach at the discretion of the Senate President,

THEREFORE, let it be resolved that under Section VI “MEETINGS”, Subsection C “Special Meetings”, an additional point be included which states,

“2.  The Senate may initiate a Conflict Resolution Meeting, be it closed or open to the public, by either at the request of a Senator or the Chair of the Senate supported by a majority vote of the Senate, or a petition signed by a quarter (1/4) of Senate’s members which would then be submitted to the Chair of the Senate to then conduct the Conflict Resolution Meeting. In this Conflict Resolution Meeting, the chair may be passed forth on to the Student Advocate General or a member of its office so that the moderation of the Conflict Resolution Meeting can be held to the fairest degree possible.”
