REQUEST FOR ACTION BY THE ASUCI SENATE 
 
All requests may be typed and submitted to the President of the Senate no later 5:00 p.m. Thursday in order to be included in the agenda for the following Tuesday. The President of the Senate reserves the right to delay the Request for Action to a later Senate session if the President of the Senate feels the agenda for the next schedule meeting is full.

Synopsis: Special Election for External Vice President

WHEREAS Article 7, Section 3, Subsection (b) of the ASUCI Constitution states “If an elected Executive Officer position is vacant for any reason, the Executive Cabinet will select someone who will serve as the interim Executive Officer, until a special election is held and the Senate certifies the results.”

WHEREAS Article 7, Section 3, Subsection (c) of the ASUCI Constitution states “The Senate must call an immediate special election to fill a vacancy in an elected Executive Officer position.”

 

WHEREAS Article IX, Section D of the ASUCI Code of Elections states “The Elections Commission shall set the date and time for Special Elections, subjected to the approval of the Senate.”

WHEREAS Article 6, Section 2, Subsection (y) of the ASUCI Constitution states “The Senate has primary policy­making legislative authority, and final administrative authority, for ASUCI and under this authority has the power to ratify elections procedures and special election dates set by the Elections Commission, as allowed by the governing documents of ASUCI;”

WHEREAS Article 10, Section 2, Subsection (l) of the ASUCI Constitution states “The Elections Commission has all authority for ASUCI elections and related activities, and under this authority has the power to call, and set dates for, special elections, subject to approval by the Senate;”


WHEREAS On the 10th of April, 2018, Zoë N. Broussard announced their resignation from the position of ASUCI External Vice President to the ASUCI Senate,

THEREFORE LET IT BE RESOLVED That the ASUCI Senate call for a Special Election to be held for the position of External Vice President with the timeline below established by the Elections Commission in accordance with the ASUCI Constitution, ASUCI Bylaws, and ASUCI Election Code, subject to ratification from this Senate.

Monday of Week 8 at 5pm: Mandatory Candidates Meeting

Monday-Saturday of Week 8: Campaigning

Sunday 5pm of Week 8: All Complaints/Appeals are due

Tuesday by 5pm of Week 9: Hearings to take Place

Wednesday 5pm of Week 9: Results Posted
