  1. R49-85 In Support of California SB 1017 (10 min)

      1. Patrick Chen- this is in favor of oil severance tax

      2. Alex Fung- it would implement 9.5% extraction tax, can generate 1 to 5 billion to possibly give funding to higher education

      3. Robert- not 100% sure about supporting this bill, the lottery is supposed to go to education and all of that doesn't actually go

        1. if we add this tax, the oil company can raise their prices

      4. Alex Fung- the state passed proposition 57 and taxes cannot be alleviated through consumers

        1. some things will come back to consumers

        2. it would be great to fund higher education, because our society depends on the youth

      1. Patrick Chen- this legislation was brought up two weeks ago

        1. SCA5 is a CA legislation that was supported by UCSA and is a campaign used to address lack of diversity and that is where support comes from

      2. Naaila Mohammed- if you have any questions I think you should ask them now

      3. Patrick Chen- there is a legislation in the CA state legislature that is being considered and this a political endorsement of that legislation

      4. Alex Fung- Business students and I support his legislation and we need to strengthen diversity

      5. Grecia Cruz- yesterday we hosted (as the arts school) an event addressing diversity so we are in support

      1. Alex Fung- I was approached with constituents and we should seek options to what professors can do

      2. Robert Dunn- I would also be in support of this legislation

      3. Alex Fung- professors have a tough time finding the course materials they need, this legislation encourages administration to help instructors to find cheaper ways for course material
