      • Khosravi: This discussion will dictates Legislative Council recommendations regarding the strategic plan. A few years ago a leg council committee for the future advised that we switch to semester system, however Academic Senate strongly disagreed.

o   Town Hall Discussion on UCI Strategic Plan 6:22

      • Tunggal: So how will this affect class loads?
      • Khosravi: Essentially this would add two more courses.
      • Phan: I see positives and negatives to each in regards to implementation so we really need to talk about all parts of each side.
      • Carlson: I think we should focus more on the overall implementation of our classes than outright changing the system.
      • Vergara: I think the pace of the semester system would create a much better system for learning some of the content better.
      • Khandadash: I talked to the dean of my school and he was opposed to the semester system because it would cut down on the classes the school could offer. Additionally, what would that do to those who are mid-degree when the switch occurs?
      • Fatahi: Think back to applying to school, did it really matter what system the school was on.
      • Kekejian: I think that to really make an informed decision we really need to look more into it, as well as look at all the information out there on this topic.
      • Khosravi: Make note that the curriculum will change. Additionally there is evidence that stress levels increase when curriculum speeds up. It is still sustainable to offer a broad variety of classes on semester system.
      • Olvera: I think the semester system has a positive that it allows for life to happen and allows you to deal with things without it ruining your academic work.
      • Phan: I don’t agree that the semester system wouldn’t hurt class diversity. I honestly think that it wouldn’t sustain what we have now.
      • Barnoy: I think that we should focus on fixing our system before we consider changing it entirely.
