  • Public Comment

    • Person (Organization/Department): Comment

      • Safady:

        • I have met a lot of students who do not speak up in campus. It bothered me that in library research side a section that tells you what's bias and unbiased, it sets an automatic prejudice. My legislation is addressing how unreliable media is today and how important it is to not have bias especially in our library. I really hope to get a second on it because groupthink is very important.

      • Public Comment:

        • Importantly discussed how unsafe it is to have her in this position on ASUCI. Her legislation on outing white supremacists. You wanted to put an idea out that no one else has so have at it. But in the end it was really about how you presented this, I point this out because in some points I agree with you when you say the dialogue is not strong but I ask what dialogue is that. I got the idea that it was dialogue of the police out of that. I agree that police are and can be unfair. But your radical approach to this topic was very racist and hard for anyone to agree with. You disrespected your honor and position, and you ignored your constituents. If you wish to honor this Melissa, then maybe you should resign.

      • Public comment: groupthink legislation, making up all of this slang and disrespecting your fellow senators. If you can’t keep quiet and forget the narrative of the local PD and you can complain that they get paid that's fine.

      • Safady:

        • I have seen it with my own eyes and I know it is very hard to prove. A lot of students think that student government is hopeless and a lot of students are afraid to speak up because of it. if someone has a different thought I know students that will be harassed or bullied because they don't speak up. Groupthink is so natural and it’s such an easy thing to happen and it could really help our society.

      • Tin:

        • It is hard to believe when you don't have any written records of any of this you don't have to film any of this. I had a complaint during week 6 tell me from a student that you yelled at them.

      • Safady:

        • It is usually by a group of people that it occur by cyberbullying. Its when groups try to hurt another group.

      • Murad:

        • the point of this legislation is to answer what the students have called for and for what they believe and they think is the right course of action. This isn’t by my own intent or action it's what I heard from the students and what they believe.

      • Give a clear example of what you mean?

        • Safady:

          • I recognized that there is the dialogue in here has shifted and is very emotional. There is a history of rape allegations and they are often found guilty. people are becoming guilty without any evidence and only through social media.

        • Broussard:

          • Students are suffering, many cannot complete their classes and their mental health is suffering. Students aren’t even able to speak up when there are legislations like theses that keep them from wanting to speak up. I am more concerned about the student who is being raped than the person being accused. I think the dialogue is completely necessary when students who cannot make these claims.

        • Baggia:

          • I felt very disappointed that you as a senator you were smiling and laughing at so many serious problems in their life. you are someone who brought up an unethical legislation. Your citation didn't make sense, we asked you for proof of the minority men and you didn't have any proof of that so I don't know why you keep going back to tat.

        • Safady:

          • I have actually looked into these laws. I am not the only person in here who knows that.

        • Tin:

          • Yes we all have views.

          • What we are at fault with is this message in the way you brought it up, is it has divided our campus up and is a very big mockery of what we do as ASUCI and the work we do.

          • Is groupthink a word for another way of saying that we don't agree with you?

            • Safady: *No answer**

        • Baggia:

          • We are asking for proof and we keep asking for names and where are they?

        • Safady:

          • I don't want to name names because I want to keep it confidential.

        • Safady:

          • I have gone through all my office hours.

        • Tin:

          • Congrats on doing all your responsibilities as a senator

        • Noureldine:

          • Ever since last year. You always ask people do you know what groupthink it and you never once ever explained it. I think you need to explain it in depths and make sure everyone knows what you are talking about.

        • Safady:

          • Groupthink is a phenomenon that occurs when people are coming into a decision. With groupthink the more you have in common, and as a school as big as UCI we are going to be vulnerable to groupthink.

        • Safady

          • A lot of the issues come from UCI as a whole.

        • Gurneel:

          • When the student felt like she was attacked did you report that?

            • Safady:

              • She felt threatened, not attacked but I am pretty sure she reported it to the police.
