        • Be transformational to UCI and/or the world

        • Be multidisciplinary or multi-organizational

        • Include areas where UCI is emerging as a leader

        • Link to fundamental grand challenges or opportunities

        • Make UCI competitive in the marketplace

      • What Big Idea Cannot be:

        • Bundle small ideas together

        • Lead to slow, incremental improvement (no “next steps” research)

        • Be solely based on a building project or naming

      • Submission Information

        • Only open to students, staff and faculty

          • We are going to have up to 3 big ideas selected

          • No guaranteed money here is you are selected but you will have

          • No price tag but think millions

        • What would it take to fund this big idea?

        • What is the timeline for implementation?

        • Describe the current state of the field and/or how this is unique to the field? (250-words max)

        • Define the urgency of your idea (for UCI and/or society)

        • How does the project align with the big idea criteria?

      • Ton: How stretched out should a proposal be?

        • Minhas

          • Don't write like an essay

          • Max I believe is 2 pages of concept

          • Don't know exactly how much funding is going to be given if we get that funding.

      • Ton: What advice would you give to students? How can we make it accessible to the population?

        • A football team

        • Another school of dentistry like for UCI that will help health sciences here

      • Winners will find out at the end of the the academic year. Can submit it online through our website.

      • A great opportunity to build a platform

      • Gabra:

        • I was thinking more that a student wins my concern are they going to have their name on it. To me it looks like that the school is going to take their idea and not give them any credit.

          • Minhas:

            • Credit and acknowledgement is happen. If it is like a school or program they name of ir needs to be left over. The idea is not to ignore who made it.

      • Minhas:

        • This isn't an opportunity all of the fundraising that is going to happen is going to the program of big ideas

      • Ton:

        • Is there any workshops?

          • Minhas:

            • Yes a campus wide workshop early Feb.

            • The two workshops are both this month: March 8th and March 19th

            • Did an entrepreneurship workshop

      • Gabra:

        • It's a little bit vague, theres nothing thats on the website that says that your name is going to be on it for years and it is hard for students to put tat much time into an idea and at the end of the day not get any credit for it. And then they are going to say well there isn't anything on the website that says you will get credit

          • Minhas:

            • I am happy to share this with the committee.

            • It's a good opportunity for students to have the potential to leave this impact

            • Not sure about how far the credit will go.

            • But I will say that I know for sure that the winning ideas will be credit.

      • Gabra:

        • I think you should state is very clearly on your website. I can see that our schools value going up. Its just to me that I don't see students benefiting from this.

          • Minhas:

            • The steps involve the committee is no more than two pages. Please dont think its a monumental amount of effort that needs to go into the idea and

      • Motion to extend time by 5 minutes

        • Motion: Ton

        • Second: Santiago

      • Ton:

        • Is there any way that we can see that there will be credit. Especially since the deadline is already so close and students have probably already submitted ideas.

          • Minhas:

            • There are terms that you are agreeing too and with the credit issued, since that is a big area of concern then I am happy to speak with the committee to give you the accurate information on that.

      • Ton:

        • I want to make sure this is not the same thing as if someone were to cure cancer then UCI owns that because you did the research under UCI.

          • Minhas:

            • ????

      • Minhas:

        • Thank You for your time and again I just wanted to put this out there so that more students can know about it and it isn't just something that passes by.
