  • Public Comment

    • Rory

      • 100% Renewable Energy

        • Immunizations on campus

        • To teach is skills how to run events

      • Every quarter we asks student we have 4 campaigns running right now

      • Follow up we have contacted the university we feel like 10% was a good number and that those pleading and giving

      • We area student run on helps that students help pit

        • one way is telling student government and getting them involved

        •
      • We have collected over 1800 new pledges this year

      • we have student support that we didn’t know we had on campus

    • Sanjanaa

      • "Hey everyone! I'm Sanjanaa. I'm the Chair Designate for SHIAC this year, which is Student Health Insurance Advisory Committee. Right now, we just got all of our proposals for next year's insurance plan, and unfortunately, I can't really release any numbers or specific names as to who put in the bids for insurance, but I can obviously give you all details of what kind of bids they have put. A lot of insurance bids that they put mimic the plan that we have currently this year. I'm reaching out to you all to talk to your constituents about asking what kind of changes they want for their insurance plans. One of the main things that we are facing right now is the whole idea of needing self-referral outside the 50-mile radius from UC Irvine. A lot of students go back to their homes over Winter Breaks, and that's not necessarily within the 50-mile radius. Unfortunately, they do have to call in to the Student Health Center to ask for a referral, and this includes mental health services as well, and that can be very daunting for students to call and ask for referral. If you all can talk to your constituents and ask them what they want or if they would prefer to have a referral. One good thing about having a referral is for whoever getting referred, their whole medical history is passed onto the next person, so they know exactly what has happened in the past and know how to guide the student in the future. If you all can talk to your constituents within the next 2 days, because our voting for health insurance proposal is next Thursday, and email me what you hear from them, that would be good. My email is sellur@uci.edu. Thank you."

    • Grace Zhang

      • Hi! My name is Grace. I'm a member of Chinese Business Society. It's an organization on campus for UCI undergraduates. We're having an event called '2018 Spring Career Fair.' We're hoping, it would be nice if ASUCI can help our work to promote the event, like sending out emails to UCI undergraduates. For the Spring Career Fair, we're reaching out to 30 companies in Orange County, Los Angeles and maybe even farther. It's open to all majors. We're also opening to finance, business, economics major students. For the career fair, there are actually companies coming in, and they're going to give students internship and job opportunities.

      • The place is Pacific Ballroom ABC on Saturday, April 14 from 1- 4 pm at UCI Student Center. We're also inviting one of the guest speakers from IBM, senior data scientists to come in to make a presentation. We're really hoping ASUCI can help us promote. Thank you.

      • Gurneel: Would Grace like to exchange contact info with Senate?

        • Annie: I’ve already connected Grace with Julie the Business Senator. I also emailed out the flyer she mentioned to all Senators and Senate members.

  • Executive Officer Reports

    • President Lydia:

      • Lydia is in Oakland now for Council of Presidents with President Napolitano.

      • Application for Judicial Board Associate Justice is officially closed. Deadline is NOT going to be extended like Lydia suggested at the last Senate Meeting, because Suchith (Chief Justice) said, "If we want to finish all interviews by the end of next week, that won't give us enough time to get any legislation through the Senate."

      • First All-OP Meeting of the school year at Crescent Bay CD, UCI Student Center 7- 9 pm last Tuesday (3/6/18). It's to inform all members of the ASUCI Office of the President to get to know one another and about the ongoing work in the office.

      • Media & Communications Commission finished headshots for the most part. They just did portrait and interviewed the new Research Mobilization Commission. The commission will focus on advertising big events coming up.

      • Mental Health Commission's UCI Reclaim Mental Health Conference will be at the end of Week 5. There will be smaller events leading up to it, including Art With Impact (Week 2) with panelists, film discussions and videos related to different mental health experiences, various identities and social justice.

    • EVP Broussard:

      • Will have more information by Monday night

    • IVP Rusteen:

      • We will have a farmers market this friday

      • Next tuesday on ring road

    • Academic Affairs Leila:

      • Beginning of next quarter will have a lot of updates

    • Gurneel: Are All-OP Meetings supposed to be twice a quarter before All-ASUCI Meetings?

      • Annie: Not for this school year.

      • Zoe: It’s up to the exec.

  • Special Committee Reports

    • Basic Needs Security:

      •
    • DREAMers:

      • We are going to make a google doc and it is open for anyone in asuci is they want to join

      • Ton: We just need someone to regularly check it so if anything is being added we check it before. And it doesn’t have to be a senator.

        • Calderon: I can do it.

        • Boparai: I just thought i should bring this up an individual met with oscar and wants to conduct a meeting about this special committee I prefer not to say the name.

      • If you guys could tell your commissioners that there is a form now that would help a lot

      • Ton: Collaborating is the whole point of special committees.

      • Boparai:

        • I am not attacking you about progress

      • Hong:

        • The Importance of doing it. Special committees don't do a lot because it requires senators to take additional time out side of this room

        • Can't get advocates from just sitting in this room, and you have to go outside and get information and do the work.

        • It is hard when me and gurneel have to ask every time what meeting did you attend what have you gotten done. If only one person is advocating an dit is becoming a problem when we have to use senates time to get things done.

      • Ton:

        • The work is going to be done through advocacy like we have always done.

      • Boparai:

        • I think this conversation should be done outside of senate meeting.

      • Ton:

        • I think if we just dissolve this at the end of the quarter. Purpose is to do progress through advocacy. It is a waste of time to do this.

      • Boparai:

        • I don’t think advocacy is going to be able to address this issue alone. We should be going back to our agenda and you are more than welcome to adjust this after the meeting.

          • motion to end discussion

            • Motion: Abadilla

            • Second: Khan

    • Disability Services:

      • NONE

    • Labor:

      • NONE

  • Old Business

    • NONE

  • New Business

    • R53-82

      • Boparai:

        • I would like to pass my chairship to Issac so I can be a part of this discussion.

      • Discussion

        • Ton:

          • I feel like we have no straight format for how we write legislation and i feel like it is very messy and it is starting to look unprofessional. I also feel like bolding th “Whereas” is messy and this no straight format is hard to read

        • Boparai:

          • I feel like the bold doesn't make it hard to read. I feel like we shouldn't take away time from doing this legislation and the people involved in this legislation.

        • Motion to amend “the fee may be re-established” to “the $5 fee may be re-established.”

          • Motion: Aldoghmi

          • Second: Hong

        • Gunaman: Where does the 10% come from what is the basis

          • Basis is the student population nwo is different from what it was then. I think it is outdated and so it should be 10% point--blank. Even if they have the same percentage of students supporting them the percentage will go lower.

        • Boparai:

          • I want us to all be on the same page with these numbers.

          • If we hit their goal of 300 then we will have reached our threshold of 10.29%. I just want to make sure everyone is reading the correct numbers.

        • Ton:

          • If we didn’t this pass this they would have to do something else?

            • Aldohgmi:

              • If didn’t pass will have to go through the referendum

        • Boparai:

          • Why would anyone in their right mind there are 2 options referendum or through the chancellor and i was informed the chancellor didn't want to go through this.

            • Motion to extend time by 5 minutes

              • Motion: Withrow

              • Second: hong

        • Rory:

          • they do a pledge drive and Any student who can chose to run this. Policy #90 and didn't count it. And goes through a process and then they will say you got enough support and then billing office will go through the students and this is something that all student groups can do on campus.

        • Boparai: first time we are doing something like this. I am not seeing anything in that language and statement that is has to go through our student body. This is just my observation.

        • Second: Ton

      • Rory: In our contract we say that we agree to have our funding system on campus an d10% is our number and we said that by have

        • Rory: If we do not get 10% then we can still show them through support from the student body and then there are 2 options for us.

          • Rory: The first one is to: get support from student body and #1 is get a referendum act and basically voting yes to pledge yes to our fund

            • Boparai: So i am getting from this that it was specifically written in the contact with uci

      • Ton:

        • With this legislation what are you asking with this 10% average. If we pass it what are the legal ramifications.

          • Rory: This is basically asking to drop the average percent

      • Hong:

        • i don't understand what we have in this and i am rather suspicious about this as being an easier option than you doing a referendum and asuci wasn't a part of this. ASUCI has is own responsibilities on its own and to pass a new one requires us to do more studying on it.

        • We don't have the same power as the chancellor.

      • Rory:

        • I want to clarify that it says in our contract ir says we can have referendum or have the student government do something and it doesn’t say the chancellor on it. It just made more sense to do ASUCI.

      • Motion to extend time by 10 minutes

        • Motion: Boparai

        • Second: Ton

      • Ton:

        • I guess that if it's not correct and i was going to say if referendum is being put through the senate then that would be easier. But i think it’s like a logical step.

      • Boparai:

        • Two routes Referendum and 2nd is chancellor signs off

        • I think a like of work has been done by CALPIRG and it is not easy to write a pledge.

        • I think there was a miscommunication or misstep by administration. And I do apologize that there was a miscommunication and i would like to clear this with administration when i get a chance.

      • Withrow:

        • I want to make sure that there is going to be steps taken so that this doesn't happen again

          • Rory:

            • We have 9 organizations and that 9th person works for ESP and they work to make sure that if anything occurs then they go back and make sure.

            • The reason there was a gap was because the organizer that was here had to return back to home for medical issue. There was a person here and then left and then there is me.

      • Motion to extend time by 10 minutes

        • Object: Ton

        • Second: Hong

      • Strawpoll: Majority votes NO

      • Motion to table this legislation until next tuesday

          • Second: Lim

        • Boparai:

          • Passing my chairship

        • PASSES

    • Rory:

      • What we are doing is there just saying that this happened last year and  is no renstating

    • Gunaman:

      • Once we accepting this its a little suspicious to see that nothing will happen after ASUCI is involved.

    • Rory:

      • The reason I have that there is to show we have the student body support.

    • Hong:

      • next time this contract comes up is in 2020 but the average is still a remaining affect in 2020?

    • Boparai:

      • So to clarify this is not to reinstate this is to support the contract. But i asked administrators and they said this is to reinstate and i would like to go back and ask them where they got that.

    • Lim: Social Sciences workshop had around 10 people

    • Boparai: J-board strike down and I want to apologize it was partly my fault I was pretty wiped out and they reminded me why I asked for two separate legislation. They said that it was appointing two people to one position.

    • Ton:

      • Does Adrian know he is a senator?

        • Boparai: He knows but I have only sent him one email.
