Major/Minor/Year:

Biological Sciences with a minor in Civic and Community Engagement, 3rd Year

Personal Facts/Passions:

I love music, whether it’s singing or just listening to a bunch of different albums. I also enjoy photo/video editing, bullet journaling (when I have the time LOL), and corgis :)

Goals For 2021-2022:

My overall goal for 2021-2022 is to reach out to more departments, organizations, and students on campus/online and get to know them and their needs more. Since the pandemic cut my time on campus during my first and second year short, I feel that there’s more urgency to catch up on missed connections and pay more attention to each other.

Why did you join ASUCI?:

I want to make sure that I can represent and be as transparent as I can possibly be to everyone I meet. I wanted to join ASUCI halfway into my first year after learning about how much work ASUCI does for the school, which I feel not too many students really know about, and I joined during my second year because I realized time was passing by and I hadn’t done anything for myself other than studying. To be able to support one another and see how all of this work brings together a big community of individuals within and outside of ASUCI is something I really enjoy, and I wanted to continue that.

Major/Minor/Year:

Second year Political Science and Asian American Studies double major.

Personal Facts/Passions:

I’m a proud Korean-American from LA’s Koreatown who enjoys talking about politics, Webtoons, and Nintendo games. A fun fact about me is that I’ve learned how to play six different instruments in my life so far (though I’m not really good at any of them). In my spare time, when I’m not in the ASUCI office, I can usually be found playing video games, watching anime, or just vibing to lo-fi beats while sipping on a Starbucks Pink Drink.

Goals For 2021-2022:

Fall quarter of my first year at UCI, I watched controversies within ASUCI divide our student government. I watched as students struggled through the pandemic. I watched as underrepresented communities remained underrepresented amidst great social upheaval. My goals for this year seek to rectify these things: to expand basic needs access, increase the transparency of our student government, support underrepresented communities, and hold administration accountable. Additionally, I plan on fighting for greater academic accommodations, following the success of the P/NP campaign last year. Through budget allocations, legislations, and negotiations, I hope to help our student body prosper following a long year of difficulties.

Why did you join ASUCI?:

During high school, I developed a passion for politics and advocacy while trying to figure out what I wanted to do in the future. Being a low-income, first-generation college student, I found that there were a great deal of obstacles in the way of success, things that could and should absolutely be worked on. Last year, I joined ASUCI as an Organizing Staffer in the Office of the External Vice President, passionate about bringing change to UCI on the grassroots level. Though I loved and respected the change that last year’s student government was able to bring about, I always thought that more could be done, especially as our students struggled amidst a pandemic. When the opportunity came, I found myself running for a Senate position, to represent the voices of UCI students to the best of my ability. I pledge to continue to do so, as your representative, as your peer, as your equal.

Personal Facts/Passions:

I’m from Palm Springs, California. I have preformed in the Sydney Opera House, Carnegie Hall, and the Vatican. I like going out on adventures. And I’ve been wanting to learn how to snowboard :)

Goals For 2021-2022:

As an At-Large Senator, I intend to address sanitary concerns in housings in order to promote equality among all communities, especially during COVID-19. I aim to continue empowering the LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities and ensuring that their voices are being heard. Finally, I strive to make UCI resources are more widely known and accessible to students, particularly undeclared students, in order to ensure that their declaring process is as easy as possible and that they are well informed regarding their options.

Why did you join ASUCI?:

I joined ASUCI to ensure BIPOC & LGBTQ+ students were being amplified. I wanted to make sure all viewpoints were taken into consideration when making decisions and policies that way we not only work with students but for students.

Major/Minor/Year:

4th Year Biological Science major, History minor

Personal Facts/Passions:

I am on a mission to eat and rank every Ben and Jerry’s ice cream flavor. Please get into contact with me for more information. I also believe the exploitation of the working class is bad but fixing that is a side mission.

Goals For 2021-2022:

I want to lend my platform to amplify any student on campus that feels hopeless and unheard. If you feel like there is a problem on campus that an ASUCI representative can maybe offer some guidance towards please contact me and I will try my best to aid you in your efforts. I know what it’s like to feel frustrated and angry about the way the school is run and having to wait for weeks for an administrator to give you a non-answer so please use me as your resource and come to my office hours or set up an appointment and I will help you any way that I can.

Why did you join ASUCI?:

I joined as a senate intern in January of 2021 because I was kinda interested in the failing socioeconomic landscape of America and how that effects our education. I realized that even though much of the corruption from the previous senate had been wiped there were still some really morally corrupt individuals in the student government and if I did not run, my spot was going to be taken by another selfish opportunist that could care less about how their personal agenda could effect the wider student population. Now I’m here and I want to be used as a megaphone for student voices.
